A fine sunny day in the community garden in Columbia Heights.

In seeking photographs for my online class as well as exercise, I stumbled upon a treasure: the Columbia Heights Green, a community garden four blocks from my house. It is approachable from an alley between Park Rod and Lamont, and stretches about two city blocks. It is a moment of life in a dead city. It is fenced off from three story Victorian townhouses, stores, and parked cars,an oasis fringed by great, bullying daisies, zinnias, and sunflowers. The garden came into being in 2011, after frustrated neighbors appealed to the nonprofit, Parks and People. Soon the garden emerged, with the help of these partners and City Council. It contains a butterfly garden, a greenhouse, a kitchen for cleaning, and a pavilion for local artists. The gardeners donate their produce to charity. It is a joy to visit.
